Residential Applications

Hot Water Heating
Solcan solar water heating systems provide hot water which has been heated by the sun. Various methods of freeze protection are available, from antifreeze, to drainback, to direct systems which are used seasonally or in areas that do not freeze.

Solar water heaters tie into the existing hot water tank to preheat the domestic hot water. The solar collectors are installed on a roof facing south. Two pipes are connected to the collectors: one carries hot fluid to the hot water tank; the other carries cool fluid back to gain more energy. A circulation pump activated by the sun keeps the fluid moving.

Pool Heating
Solar Pool panels are used to directly heat a swimming pool. The pool water is diverted to the solar panels when there is enough solar energy available. When the sun goes down the pool water flows directly back to the pool bypassing the solar panels.

PV Systems
Photovoltaic systems convert sunlight into electricity. These systems can be tied directly to the power grid and the energy sold to the local utility or they can be used with battery storage in remote areas where no electricity is available.

Space Heating
Solcan offers combination domestic hot water with space heating and/or pool heating options. Contact us for more information.

Commercial Applications

The commercial sector presents tremendous opportunities for solar energy, an area where Solcan has a great deal of experience. There are many excellent commercial applications for solar water heating. A solar system is an effective supplement to an existing heating system that will reduce costs and at the same time save the environment. Some of the projects Solcan has completed are:

    Projects
Solcan has experience, having designed, manufactured and installed various commercial systems in Canada and around the world. These systems vary from 25 to 250 square meters, including nursing homes, car washes, motels, fitness centres, apartment buildings and many others.

    Financial Incentives/Economics
    EcoEnergy Program
The EcoEnergyinitiative is a six year, 24 million dollar, federal government program designed to stimulate demand for renewable energy systems. The program offers a 25% rebate for businesses on the purchase and installation costs of a solar system, up to a maximum rebate of $50,000. The program offers a simple pre qualification procedure for more information contact Solcan or visit the Natural Resources Canada web site.
